My Resignation from Harvest Rock Church Caused a Stir

I have never put my business on a blog when it comes to leaving a Church until this week. The reason is because it has usually not been a doctrinal issue or anything like that. This time it was different. There was a deception that had been played out in the public, and I can't figure out who is the real deceiver. Was it Todd Bentley or Was it the group who commissioned him as a way to silence his critics? I admit that I still don't know. Maybe it was both.

I do not hold the group, Che Ahn, Peter Wagner, Bill Johnson, or John Arnott responsible for Bentley's choices, but for their fast tracking him when they would not have done that to any other person.

The Bible is clear about laying hands on people too quickly lest you share in their sin. I think we just saw what Paul meant by that.

These leaders didn't check on Todd Bentley or they would have found that he is a convicted child molester in Canada. Do we really want to commission someone who went to jail for hurting a kid. He was 15 at the time, and claims to have come to Christ 5 years later.
They would see that he relies more on unconfirmable "experiences" than on the Word of God.
They would see that he disappeared for months last year because of "issues" that seem to have not been dealt with.

How come everyone else could see, but the people who should see?

Letter of Resignation From Church Due to Todd Bentley

Dear Pastor Ahn,

It is with a heavy heart that I resign my membership at Harvest Rock. I enjoy you and respect you, but I have some issues with the handling of Todd Bentley. Issues that show a propensity of the charismatic community to put men of questionable character in the lime light, and then take lightly the people that see the issues.

Todd Bentley's marriage coming to an end is not even the problem, but all the other things that you, Peter Wagnor, John Arnott, and other leaders overlooked before commissioning him.

1. His consistent issues that have taken him off the road in times past.
2. Blatant doctrinal issues that border on heresy.

So, if the leaders are to protect our souls, how can they do that if they are themselves are deceived by wolves in sheeps clothing? Where's the deception? A. Either the commissioning group knew his issues and deceived the people, or B. You didn't know and were deceived yourself. Either way, since you all claim to have a prophetic voice, why is it that God seems to never clue you guys into what is going on when it counts. It is easy to make claims of the prophetic when it is in the sweet by and by, but this was crunch time, and you guys failed.

Was it because you guys were too quick to rush after a "sign?" or are you so desperate for a "move" of God that you will accept an immitation? I don't feel sorry for the leadership over this, but the people who were told by the owners of God TV that “any criticism of Todd Bentley is demonic”?

I have been a Christian for 25 years, and I have watched so called "moves" come and go. I have seen the shooting star preachers come and go. And I have seen the damage that far too many of them leave behind. A genuine move of God changes lives, not for a moment, but forever. God being in it usually will show itself, like in Toronto. But when it is a genuine thing that moves from God to man with deception as its foundation, then what? We have not seen the fallout of this yet, and I am sad that you allowed yourself to get pulled in and take the Church with you.

My resignation is because I cannot trust your judgment, because you seem to be looking for something instead of being where you are. Why not teach people the basics of the Word, so they won't go chasing every wind of doctrine or some "move of God" because then they won't be living for a season to come, but content in the season they are in.

If you were deceived by Todd Bentley, then I am sorry, but in this day and age, you have to be able to discern. Funny, that the "old guard" got it right and they took hits for not jumping on the bandwagon.

I do wish you success and healing at Harvest Rock.

Sincerely,
Delores Williams

Todd Bentley Shown to be a Deceiver

Word has come out that Todd Bentley and his wife have separated. The sad thing is that I am not surprised. You can not have a lone ranger preaching all kinds of deception be good. My Church hosted him last month, and God is my witness, I walked in the door hesitantly, and then without reason, left. I never saw him. Something had been wrong for years, but as usual too many charismatics fall for deception, just as Jesus said they would.
They keep looking for a sign and a wonder, so the devil gives them someone wrapped in their clothes. The thing is that in the last 25 years that I have been a Christian, the deception has grown more difficult to discern quickly by far too many. In fact, it would seem that the predominate leadership of the Apostolic movement had been taken in by Bentley. Now, I should say, if you read the stuff his wife says, it didn't sound like she was too thrilled with his Christianity. In fact, in noting the emails and recordings I have listened to, I have never heard him say anything of his wife in a spiritual manner. You know, like "my wife prayed for me," nope, so this could be a thing where an unbeliever wants to depart. If that is the case Todd Bentley better speak up, because he is about to see how fast charasmatics drop people. Forget the shooting star stuff, this is a burial of sorts.

My thing is not against Todd, but the so called leadership in the Charismatic community, including my Pastor, that jumped on the Todd Bentley bandwagon. There were "words" and threats against people questioning this move. They claim to be so prophetic, yet they could not see that underneath all the flash was a person in trouble.

Clues:
He talks to angels
He loves William Branham who was deceived before his death.
He received the tatoos and piercings AFTER he came to Christ

Quote from "Fire in My Bones by Lee Grady:
Why did a group of respected ministers lay hands on Bentley on June 23 and publicly ordain him? Did they know of his personal problems?

This controversial ceremony was organized by Peter Wagner, who felt that one of Bentley’s greatest needs was proper spiritual covering. He asked California pastors Che Ahn and Bill Johnson, along with Canadian pastor John Arnott, to lay hands on Bentley and bring him under their care. Bentley certainly needs such covering. No one in ministry today should be out on their own, living in isolation without checks, balances and wise counsel. It was commendable that Wagner reached out to Bentley and that Bentley acknowledged his need for spiritual fathers by agreeing to submit to the process. The question remains, however, whether it was wise to commend Bentley during a televised commissioning service that at times seemed more like a king’s coronation.

I trust that Wagner, Ahn, Johnson and Arnott didn’t know of Bentley’s problems before they ordained him. I am sure they are saddened by the events of this week and are reaching out to Bentley and his wife to promote healing and restoration. But I believe that they, along with Bentley and the owners of God TV, owe the body of Christ a forthright, public apology for thrusting Bentley’s ministry into the spotlight prematurely. (Perhaps such an apology should be aired on God TV.)

We will never get a public apology because that is not what the Church does. It hides its sin and hope you don't notice. It turns out that the people who were not caught up in the hype were well served, including myself. You know what is odd? My Church, pastored by Che Hahn held a "33 days of glory" with Todd Bentley being the culmination, I never went one day. It seems The Holy Spirit really helped me stay away from something that will ultimately cause many to lose their faith.

Now I have to wonder, do I go back to this Church that has proven itself as unable to discern deception. I can't help but think not. Besides, Che Ahn was friends with Ted Haggard too and didn't know or didn't do anything about what he did know. I don't think God would want me to submit myself under that.

I did My Teleclass Today

Being spurred on by my Twitter friends I have embarked on a path that has me teaching by phone and online, updating Websites, making products and all that kind of stuff. You know what? It can be exhausting if I let myself try to keep up with them, so I made a decision to slow my roll. I am still doing work for hours on in, but at least it is balanced. Some of them seem to work almost 7 days a week.

I believe if you work hard, then you get to play hard and some of them don't seem to play very much. Some are at seminars ALL the time. Well, it is one thing if you are a speaker, but really a weekly seminar in a different state. That begs me to ask a question; if they are at seminars all the time, when do they work (speakers excepted). Will do they live their dreams instead of listening to others share theirs?

This was my first year going to seminars, and I loved them, but I also know that the key word from the four I have been to is action. It is a running joke about seeing people on the circuit because some go to ALL the seminars that come to town. Heck, if I did that, it would be a full-time job. Don't get me wrong, I have learned a lot from the seminars I attended, and the biggest thing was to go out and make my dreams a reality.

This has nothing to do with the teleclass. It was just a roundup for entrepreneurs, and I talked most of it. The only bad part was that someone had me on a speaker phone, so I was echoing. It was a good experience, and I look forward to next month.

Oh, and I finally produced my first product. You can find it here.

Well, that is it for the day. Have a great one.
